Karyn Sandelman is founder and principal of A Mindful Choice, LLC, which creates and delivers secular mindfulness programs to foster positive transformation in organizations, schools, and community settings.  A highly trained, seasoned mindfulness educator, Karyn is Qualified by the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center to teach the preeminent, evidence-based Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program and Certified by the internationally established Mindful Schools organization. 

Prior to launching A Mindful Choice, Karyn served as the Director of Elementary and Adult Programs for Minds Incorporated, a nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C.  She served in this role from 2015 to 2017, developing and managing mindfulness curricula, providing training and guidance for a sizable network of mindfulness educators, and teaching mindfulness to elementary school students and adults.  Karyn brings to this work exceptional leadership and organizational skills, developed during a long-term career as a leader at Freddie Mac, where she had first-hand experience integrating mindfulness in high-stress environments, building collaborative relationships, and cultivating a climate in which both individuals and teams thrived.  She has extensive experience coaching staff, fostering win-win relationships, and facilitating learning programs of all sizes (including workshops, courses, seminars, webinars, and conferences).    

Karyn earned her Master of Science degree from Columbia University and Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University.  She is the mother of two adult children who learned mindfulness and yoga with her as they grew up, offering her some of her most valuable insights into the benefits of mindfulness for people at any stage in life.  In sharing mindfulness with others, she draws upon 20+ years of personal mindfulness practice and study, along with her professional experience and passion about the positive, transformative potential mindfulness offers to all.

Laura Feagans Gould, Ph.D., head of research and principal, is interested in helping foster a greater understanding of how contemplative practices may be helpful for individuals, organizations, and society. She helps organizations use theory-building, scientific methods, and data collection coupled with a mindset of curiosity and openness to engage in an ongoing learning cycle of program development and evaluationHer peer-reviewed research has focused on understanding the essential components of mindfulness-based programs in school settings as well as their potential impact on the development of relevant youth outcomes. She holds a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed her post-doctoral training at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Laura’s personal mindfulness practice has allowed her to more authentically connect with her own experiences and with others. As a co-parent of two young children, she finds various contemplative practices essential for cultivating self-compassion and acceptance and for nurturing her intention to be fully present with them.
